Calypso<\/em>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Her last scheduled visit to Arkansas would&#8217;ve occurred on April 11<\/span><sup style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">th<\/sup><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">, 2014 at the Fayetteville Public Library.\u00a0 However, she was forced to cancel the appearance for health reasons, and issued a <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faylib.org\/mayaangelou\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> <\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">expressing her apology and her deeply profound and personal reflections on Arkansas:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><i>I learned in Arkansas at a very young age from my grandmother who taught me, \u2018when you learn, teach and when you get, give\u2019.<\/i><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><i style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">In Arkansas I also learned not to complain.\u00a0\u00a0I was taught that there are people all over the world who have less than I have and who would give anything for a portion of my possessions.\u00a0\u00a0They went to sleep last night as I went to sleep and they never awakened.\u00a0\u00a0Their beds have become their cooling boards and their blankets have become their winding sheets and they would give anything and everything for what I was complaining about.<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><i style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">In Arkansas, I learned to trust love, not the romance of it, but the heart of it.\u00a0\u00a0In Arkansas I learned to have respect for friendship, to honor it, to trust it and to build it.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">The former poet, author, civil rights activist, actress, screenplay writer, cable car conductor, Calypso singer, film director, dancer, newspaper editor, radio voice, cocktail waitress, professor, \u00a0and Arkansan died on May 28th, at the age of 86.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<address style=\"padding-left:
