Spring midterms are fast approaching at Tech, and this means more students will be visiting the library. Like in finals week, this is one of the busiest weeks of the semester. More students inevitably leads to a higher-than-average buzz of activity and, namely, noise.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1679\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/bad-study-group.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1679\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1679\" class=\"wp-image-1679 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/files\/2016\/02\/bad-study-group.jpg?resize=400%2C400\" alt=\"Bad study group\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1679\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Don&#8217;t be like <a href=\"https:\/\/issuu.com\/arkansastechuniversity\/docs\/studenthandbook-2015_final-revised_\">these guys<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Try as we might, the librarians and staff can\u2019t be everywhere at once (much as we\u2019d like to shush to our <span style=\"color: #333333\"><a style=\"color: #333333\" href=\"http:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/comics-60s-1960s-H1N1gMteRGLbq\">hearts\u2019 content<\/a><\/span> in our continual quest to end needless noise). Luckily, we have a resource for students who want their peers at the next computer to lower their voices, for the gentleman with his headphones too loud, or the girls having a social break instead of studying Sociology\u2014all without having to leave their desk and risk being caught tattling to a library worker.<\/p>\n<p>Students can text <strong>(479) 802-4876 <\/strong>to report loud or obnoxious patrons. This anonymous tip line sends the message to a working librarian or staff member, who can handle the noise complaint so students can focus on their own work without having to shush their neighbors. \u00a0As long as the library is open, our\u00a0shush\u00a0line is open.\u00a0Standard text message rates will apply.<\/p>\n<p>And sure\u2014we understand that group projects and study partners need a place to work, too.\u00a0 That\u2019s why the 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0floor is designated a \u201clow-noise\u201d floor.\u00a0 However, the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0floor is our quiet study area&#8211;whisper only, please.\u00a0 If you need to get a little louder, consider <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/library.atu.edu\/help\/AZ\/2-study.php\">reserving a study room<\/a><\/strong>, where groups can meet and talk at normal volume.<\/p>\n<p>Give our new texting service a try.\u00a0 Your texts will help us enforce our existing noise <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/library.atu.edu\/about\/policies.php\">policy<\/a><\/strong> when we cannot be in all places at once.<\/p>\n<p>Remember&#8211;sometimes shhh happens. \u00a0But through our new texting service, you\u00a0have the power to make\u00a0shhh happen when you need it the most.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s hard enough to prepare for upcoming tests, group projects, and paper deadlines when the group seated next to you is being noisy in the library, the sacred space for quiet and effective study.
