{"id":2490,"date":"2017-09-07T20:01:39","date_gmt":"2017-09-07T20:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/?p=2490"},"modified":"2017-09-08T19:28:05","modified_gmt":"2017-09-08T19:28:05","slug":"dardanelle-and-the-bottoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/2017\/09\/07\/dardanelle-and-the-bottoms\/","title":{"rendered":"Dardanelle and the Bottoms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uapress.com\/dd-product\/dardanelle-and-the-bottoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2494\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/files\/2017\/09\/dardanelle.png?resize=339%2C440\" alt=\"book jacket image featuring two crows on a lifeless tree branch\" width=\"339\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Learn about local history with a special presentation at the Ross Pendergraft Library on Monday, September 11th, as we welcome Dr. Diane Gleason to discuss her latest book, <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/a.co\/2Vsm7JX\">Dardanelle and the Bottoms: Environment, Agriculture, and Economy in an Arkansas River Community, 1819-1970<\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong> Join us at 7:00 PM in Room 300B of the Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center for this opportunity to explore the fascinating history of our own backyard.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gleason is a recently retired associate professor of history from Arkansas Tech, who ended a forty-year teaching career last May in order to devote time to historical research and writing.\u00a0 While at Tech, she created and taught the Southern Women\u2019s History course, reintroduced and reinvigorated several defunct courses such as American Labor History and American Economic History, and taught a broad spectrum of other history classes.<\/p>\n<p>She has written several entries in the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.encyclopediaofarkansas.net\/encyclopedia\/entry-detail.aspx?search=1&amp;entryID=1020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arkansas Encyclopedia of History and Culture<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/atu-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01ARKTECH:Everything:01ARKTECH_ALMA2127835220002606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arkansas Biography<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, and <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/a.co\/a9XffXq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Writing Women\u2019s History: A Tribute to Anne Firor Scott<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 She co-authored <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/atu-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01ARKTECH:Everything:01ARKTECH_ALMA2129670390002606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Warren G. Harding, Harbinger of Normalcy<\/a><\/em><\/strong> with Dr. H.
