October 9th, at the Ross Pendergraft Library.\u00a0 Mike Bogue will discuss his latest book \u201c<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/a.co\/0lo6Kzu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apocalypse Then: American and Japanese Atomic Cinema, 1951-1967<\/a><\/strong>\u201d in RPL 300B at 7:00 PM.\u00a0 Explore how the United States (the only country to have ever dropped atomic bombs on another country) and Japan (the only country to be attacked by atomic bombs) portrayed the threat of nuclear fallout and annihilation differently on film during the 1950&#8217;s and 1960&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Bogue, whose previous book was titled\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/atu-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01ARKTECH:01ARKTECH_ALMA2131784010002606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atomic Drive-In<\/a><\/strong>, will discuss movies like <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/atu-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01ARKTECH:Everything:01ARKTECH_ALMA2132311410002606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Godzilla (1954)<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0050251\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Mysterians (1957)<\/strong>,<\/a> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0053137\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">On the Beach (1959),<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0055428\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Last War (1961)<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/atu-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/01ARKTECH:Everything:01ARKTECH_ALMA2133778360002606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Strangelove (1964)<\/a><\/strong> to illustrate how both cultures shared their apocalyptic fears in the cinema.\u00a0 Following the presentation, there will be a question answer session, and Mike will be available to sign books if anyone wishes to take
