{"id":2669,"date":"2018-04-05T20:00:04","date_gmt":"2018-04-05T20:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/?p=2669"},"modified":"2018-04-02T20:47:16","modified_gmt":"2018-04-02T20:47:16","slug":"redgunk-tales-this-monday-april-9th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/2018\/04\/05\/redgunk-tales-this-monday-april-9th\/","title":{"rendered":"Redgunk Tales this Monday, April 9th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/a.co\/758EWfN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2670 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/files\/2018\/04\/redgunk.jpg?resize=294%2C452\" alt=\"Cover of book entitled &quot;RedGunk Tales : Apocalypse and Kudzu from Redgunk, Mississippi\" width=\"294\" height=\"452\" \/><\/a>Join us on Monday, April 9th in RPL 300B at 7:00 P.M. for a presentation from Dr. Bill Eakin, professor of philosophy and German from the University of the Ozarks, on his book entitled, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/atu-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/primo-explore\/fulldisplay?docid=01ARKTECH_ALMA2129312290002606&amp;context=L&amp;vid=NEW-UI-ARKTECH&amp;search_scope=Everything&amp;tab=default_tab&amp;lang=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Redgunk Tales : Apocalypse and Kudzu from Redgunk, Mississippi<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Dr. Eakins will discuss his book as well as tips for publishing short stories.<\/p>\n<p>Redgunk Tales features 13 interwoven stories set in the fictional town of Redgunk, Mississippi, where \u201cthe predictable lives of the smothering backwater&#8217;s residents are touched by shadowy supernatural events\u201d (Publisher\u2019s Weekly).<\/p>\n<p>Critics have said Dr. Eakin\u2019s stories are like \u201cThomas Wolfe on acid and James Joyce on moonshine,\u201d and \u201csimultaneously a place of prosaic horror and absolute beauty.\u201d\u00a0 His most recent literary work has been labeled \u201ca stunning masterpiece\u201d by Andre Dubus, III (<u>House of Sand and Fog<\/u>).<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Eakins currently lives in Arkansas on a cliff above Piney Bay outside of Russellville.
