{"id":2926,"date":"2019-02-15T21:05:18","date_gmt":"2019-02-15T21:05:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/?p=2926"},"modified":"2019-02-15T21:05:53","modified_gmt":"2019-02-15T21:05:53","slug":"going-old-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.atu.edu\/library\/2019\/02\/15\/going-old-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Going Old School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Get your hands on history here at the Ross Pendergraft Library as we host a special series called\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.atu.edu\/echoes\">Echoes of the River Valley<\/a>, aimed at exploring the culture and the craft of our local past.\u00a0 Join us for music, dancing, sewing, and spinning all semester long as we partner with community members to connect with the skills and talents that helped shaped the character of the Ozarks.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a list of the open classes and events hosted this month:<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Saturday, Feb. 16th @ 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. in RPL 300B&#8211;<\/strong><strong>Spinning Yarns: Literally and Figuratively.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Ozarks Fiber Group will be here for a\u00a0<em>spin-in\u00a0<\/em>at the Library.\u00a0 Live demonstrations of spinning fibers of many kinds will be done. Materials in various stages of the yarn or string making process will be available. This is is the<em>\u00a0literal\u00a0<\/em>portion.\u00a0 The\u00a0<em>figurative\u00a0<\/em>part of the program will look at Arkansas and Ozark region folklore and stories. Books by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/shsmo.org\/historicmissourians\/name\/r\/randolph\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vance Randolph<\/a>\u00a0and other story collectors and tellers will be featured. Local quilters will display hand quilted pieces both old and new. It has evolved just as the old-time music has. Traditionally this type of dance always uses live musicians playing fiddle tunes. No experience or partner necessary!
