It&#8217;s also a valuable skill that students need to master as they continue to prepare for higher education and\/or a career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"This article  (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edweek.org\/ew\/articles\/2017\/05\/17\/children-must-be-taught-to-collaborate-studies.html\" target=\"_blank\">This article<\/a> from Education Week (Sparks, 2017) provides a rationale for why students must be taught to collaborate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"This article (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/blog\/deeper-learning-collaboration-key-rebecca-alber\" target=\"_blank\">This article<\/a> from Edutopia (Alber, 2012) has tips on how to teach students to listen and ask good questions &#8230; exercises designed to scaffold deep, meaningful collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another useful tool is the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Collaborative Inquiry Plan (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ascd.org\/ascd-express\/vol14\/num22\/deepening-student-understanding-with-collaborative-discourse.aspx?utm_source=ascdexpress&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Express%2014-22\" target=\"_blank\">Collaborative Inquiry Plan<\/a> (Hess, 2019).
