The passage of the LEARNS Act (2023) effectively eliminated AMI snow days by requiring districts to meet strict on-site, in-person instructional time mandates.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2017, the Arkansas Legislature passed <a aria-label=\"ACT 862 (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.arkleg.state.ar.us\/assembly\/2017\/2017R\/Acts\/Act862.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ACT 862<\/a> (2017) that allowed school districts to develop <strong>Alternate Methods of Instruction<\/strong> plans which could be used on days when the superintendent closed school due to exceptional or emergency circumstances &#8230; such as inclement weather, a contagious disease outbreak, or a major utility outage. This initiative has been especially helpful for small, isolated, rural districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Arkansas Department of Education has an <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"AMI page (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.arkansased.gov\/divisions\/learning-services\/alternative-methods-of-instruction\" target=\"_blank\">AMI page<\/a> on their website that gives a full description of this program.
