Jigsaw was developed in the early 1970s by Elliot<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Aronson<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>and his students at the University of Texas and the University of California.\u00a0 Since then, thousands of classrooms have used Jigsaw with great success.<\/p>\n<p>Just as in a jigsaw puzzle, every piece (in this case, each individual student&#8217;s part) is essential for the completion of the final product and a full understanding of the work.\u00a0 Since each student&#8217;s part is essential, then each student is essential \u2014and that is<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>precisely<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>why this strategy is so effective.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ascd.org\/publications\/books\/107059\/chapters\/Jigsaw.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This ASCD article<\/a> offers an excellent overview of Jigsaw.
