In addition, any student in the 3rd &#8211; 12th grade who appears to be experiencing difficulty should also be screened. (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"This article (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smartbrief.com\/original\/2019\/02\/identifying-students-dyslexia-middle-high-school\" target=\"_blank\">This article<\/a> by Donell Pons offers some tips on spotting dyslexia in older students.)*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Common screening tools include <strong>DIBELS<\/strong>&nbsp;(Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills),&nbsp;<strong>DSA<\/strong> (Developmental Spelling Analysis), and <strong>AR-RAN<\/strong> (Arkansas Rapid Automatized Naming Screener). <strong>IStation<\/strong> also has an online assessment of reading skills that can be used in K-2 with some modifications. <strong>CTOPP2<\/strong> (Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing), and <strong>WJ IV<\/strong> (Woodcock-Johnson tests) may be used in some settings. And Kilpatrick&#8217;s <strong>P.A.S.T.<\/strong> (Phonological Awareness Skills Test) may also prove helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*It&#8217;s important to note that teachers and principals should never <em>diagnose<\/em> students as having dyslexia. If necessary, this should only be done by trained professionals.
