They must learn how to dialog and disagree without becoming angry, aggressive, or violent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, the current national political environment, as well as local political and racial divisions, is making that goal much more difficult. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ascd.org\/el\/articles\/responding-to-intolerance-leadership-for-a-multiracial-democracy\" target=\"_blank\">This article<\/a> by Rogers and Kahne explores the challenges involved and offers suggestions on how to prevent or reduce hateful or racist speech and violent actions. It offers several suggestions for building community and supporting a positive agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As violent extremism in our country continues to grow, it&#8217;s vital that our schools offer a different perspective and help students understand the importance of respect for opposing views and engaging in productive dialog &#8230; key components that this country was built on.
