Japan Update #3
The Nissin Experience
It’s been another two weeks since the last update, and I’ve been staying very busy ever since. I’m happy to say that I officially have lots of friends here both domestically and abroad. Honestly, this has already been one of my impactful journeys of my life so far. One of my concerns I had while on the airplane was how I would make it without my friends and family in this new country. Due to the time zone difference, I was no longer able to call my friends at any moment, and not seeing my family often is different that I’m used to. Despite the separation, I found that it was relatively easy making friends. I learned that I naturally put myself in situations that require social engagement, leading to many opportunities to befriend others. As soon as I heard that there were lots of different clubs that met every week, I went and checked out as many as I could. I ended up wanting to join three different clubs which were, Kendo, Onbu, and Table Tennis club. Kendo is a modern Japanese martial art where they fight with bamboo sticks, unfortunately practice doesn’t start until May, so I’ll get back to you on that. Onbu is the campus music club which hosted multiple performances at the beginning of the semester. Another thing that I learned was the schooling in Japan is much more relaxed in comparison to my home university. From what I understand they are more relaxed because they put a lot more work during their high school years. That came as a shock to me since it’s as if it were inverse in America. With all the free time on my hands currently, I’ve been to an amusement park and to the hot springs. I recommend it to everyone who goes to Japan, it’s a must have experience. Next time I update the blog it’ll be around golden week here in Japan. Till then.
