These past two weeks, I have been participating in the Spring Language Course that Justus Liebig Universität offers prior to the semester start. I have had a chance to meet people from various places in the world including South Korea, Columbia, and Taiwan. The international offers held some events for those of us who are in the Spring course, so we could get to know each other more as well and that was nice. They also had some optional activities where they can help with enrollment, give campus tours, etc. for those who are exchange students.
I think the thing that has changed the most about my relationship regarding the small things that I have already begun thinking about things. Things such as stores are closed on Sundays and open later on Saturdays, stores may not be open after 7 PM and check the bus route to know the last time that it stops by the house. It has only been a couple of weeks, and these have already started to integrate themselves into my day to day thought process. This happened a lot earlier than I thought it would, but with things that are day to day like store hours and bus times, I think it was something that would happen faster.
One interesting thing that I learned about universities here versus in Arkansas is that while the classes will say online that they are from 8 AM to 10 AM, unless stated differently, they will actually start at 8:15 and end at 9:45. This is in order to give students time to get to and from where they need to be. This makes sense because of the way that the campuses aren’t as compact and some students relying on public transportation, but it definitely took me by surprise.
My favorite food I have had so far, I think is either currywurst or a Krapfen, a type of jelly filled doughnut
