Sydney Blog #10: Trying New Things, End of May/Beginning of June

September 24, 2025 by ghaulmark

I had a presentation on the 24th in one of my classes. It was my master’s class which is about the intertwining of pop music and politics. Because of this, I was able to create and give a presentation on a group I really like, their lyrics, and how they relate to what we have learned in class. I, personally, enjoyed this presentation. I was really nervous, but I usually am for any public speaking. However, having the topic be something that I was knowledgeable about and enjoy helped my nerves. There was one day I didn’t go to one of my classes though because I woke up with stomach pain and was extremely uncomfortable.

All of my classes are almost over, and I am sad about that, but it has been a great experience. I have had some classes that have discussions, but not any that I can think of that are as discussion based. It is nice though because while it is daunting in a way, it does help with understanding concepts and presenting differing views that can help with understanding something and asking further questions. This is helpful in the classes I am taking where we are discussing literature as well as both hypothetical situations and past situations internationally. Having international students in the social sciences classes, especially in the ones that discuss politics allows for various political background perspectives of topics.

I tried a bubble tea shop in the shopping center that I really liked. It was a moment of pushing myself because I had been to another restaurant in the same building and know how to order quickly and easily there, but this was a new place, new people, new menu, and I was going to do it. I was able to do it fairly easily only stumbling over my words because I was nervous about really messing up.
