I was able to go to Switzerland with Alyssa, Ruthie, and Kaedyn. We originally planned on staying two nights but looking at prices decided to travel early on Saturday and only stay Saturday night. The hostel we stayed in was originally a prison. On Saturday, we walked around Lucerne, where we were staying, and Sunday we went to Mount Pilatus. Mount Pilatus is a peak of the Alps that you can take a cable car to go to. This was really fun for me because while I had been to Lucerne before I did not go up the mountain last time, so it was fun to do it.
Traveling with the group, I found that I really enjoy traveling with a small group of friends over a big group or by myself. I know I am going to have to travel more by myself once the others leave, so I will have to step out of my comfort zone, but it was nice to have a small group to travel with.
However, my week ended up not being all sunshine and rainbows because on Thursday, my mom texted me to let me know she was taking one of my childhood dogs to the vet and updated me later to let me know that it wasn’t looking good. Eventually, she told me that they did have to put her down. It was really hard because I grew up with Lilly and I couldn’t even be there in person to say goodbye.
I had missed home prior to losing Lilly, but this was something major happening that I couldn’t be there for. This had been one of my fears when leaving: what if someone ends up in the hospital or dies and I can’t be there. Because of this, on top of being sad that I lost my dog, I was also feeling regret for not being there and the fear of possibly not being present for other important events.
