I’m an English major with a double minor in TESOL and Japanese, and I’m going to study abroad in Japan next year. I’m the first student from Tech attending Nagoya University of Foreign Studies, so I hope that by sharing my experiences I can help future Tech students be more prepared if they’re considering- attending NUFS in the future. I’ve been studying Japanese for 5 years, and hope to help my language abilities grow by living in Japan for the next year. I have been to Japan before, but only for about 2 weeks in high school, and never alone, so I’m excited to see what this coming year has in store for me. Last time I went was about 2 years ago for a high school trip, where I went to Yamanashi for 10 days and stayed with a host family, and then we went to Tokyo for shopping. I can’t wait to be able to see all my old friends in Japan, and I have no doubt that I’ll also make many new ones while at NUFS.
I chose to study abroad in Nagoya mostly because of its location in Japan. It’s centered nearly in the middle of the main island of Japan, Honshu, and I can easily travel practically anywhere from there. Also, NUFS has a great Japanese language program I’m excited to attend, with regular cultural excursions to different places near Nagoya, and I’ll be staying in an international dorm with people from all over the world who are studying Japanese just like me. I want to be an English teacher in Japan in the future, and there is no doubt that studying abroad is a great way to prepare me for that, and it has also been a goal of mine since early high school. Studying abroad offers a unique experience to study Japanese that you can’t find in a regular classroom, and I’m excited to soon start my journey living in Japan.
While I won’t be leaving for another week, I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself a little, and share what I’ll be doing next year with you. I’m super excited to be leaving soon, and can’t wait to go on an adventure next year. I’ll check back in soon!
またね！

Hey! My name is Pacia, and I’m a Junior at Arkansas Tech University.
