Hi everyone!
I just started school last week and it’s going well. I only have one class each day from Monday to Thursday, and then no class on Friday. One thing about the German education system is that most of the time there are multiple campuses across the town for one university. It does make it kind of annoying to have to travel to each campus but that’s part of the fun. It’s definitely different than the system at ATU where we live on campus and all of our classes are within walking distance! I also don’t have that much classwork here because there is only one grade, which is the exam at the end of the semester, so I just have to study whatever is spoken in class. At ATU we have tons of assignments that help us with our grade. My preconceived notions are helping me to navigate new academic rules because I already sort of expected this, but it’s still definitely an adjustment.
The average week for me consists of going to class around 10am every day besides Friday, studying for a few hours after, and then meeting with friends for dinner. On Friday’s I usually go out with my friends or take a train to a nearby village and explore castles. That is one of my most favorite parts about being in Germany. One thing on my bucket list is to take a train to Bavaria just to try a gigantic pretzel (might do that next week 🙂 ). I’m also going to visit Denmark again in two weeks!
For me, whenever I travel somewhere I have to try unique foods. One of my favorite foods that I’ve tried so far has been Mettbrötchen, or raw pork on bread. I know that is kind of dangerous in the US, but apparently the standards for meat are way different here and a lot of people eat it! Although, I’m sort of hesitant to eat it again just as a precaution, but it is still my favorite snack in Germany.
Until next time,
Roxi
