If you’re frustrated with the “every teacher is a reading teacher” mantra, ASCD has a great article on converting the K-W-L model to your specific discipline.
In Science, for example, K-W-L becomes O-I-C (observe, infer, conclude), and in Art it becomes O-A-E (observe, analyze, express). In other words, disciplinary literacy focuses on doing the work instead of just reading about it.
